Supply Chain
Supply chains are complex set of interconnected processes executed in supplying a product. Managing, modelling and designing these complex processes is called Supply Chain Management.
One of the most complex and relevant supply chains of today would be those of mobile phones.
Mobile phones are assembled using multiple parts. Each part manufactured as a separate component, like the microprocessor chip consisting of millions of transistors.
If we go about mapping the entire supply chain of Mobile phones, we will start at the location where the elements were mined and end it with customer, you and me. If we are going to take this one step further, we can also map the process of disposal of mobile phone to be part of the supply chain.
These set of complex processes will be spread across multiple regions and stakeholders with each fulfilling their role to further the supply chain.
Logistics
We at Pipehaul are in the business of Commodity Supply Chain Logistics.
We focus on approaching the logistical challenges of a commodity to further it along the Supply Chain.
We are focused on commodities to induct a market based approach to logistics. This is in contrast to the dominant approach of being service oriented.
We are currently operating in the category of produce commodities.
Why?
Supply chains are complex due to number of stakeholders, interconnected workflows and differing capital models. This is one of the reasons why we are starting with relatively simpler supply chains of bulk commodities.
In bulk commodities, we have classification of products. Lesser number of stakeholders with limited overlap. Standardised workflows based on the commodities. And, marginal differences in capital models to run the trade.
By focusing on logistics of commodity supply chains, we see an opportunity to build integrated logistics, which are interoperable and affordable.
We are working to bring efficiency to cost of transaction by optimising logistics in commodities supply chain. This would enable more trade across different buyers and producers/manufacturers.
We start with produce trade at Subjimandi.app and then expand.
